Why Dickson Yewn?
The creative seeds for Dickson Yewn’s work were sown over five thousand years ago, and are brought to life today as spectacular contemporary designs celebrating China’s rich cultural heritage.
Born in Hong Kong, Dickson’s bonds with Chinese art and culture were formed during his childhood as he passionately devoted himself to the study of fine art and philosophy. After a spell in New York’s art scene in the mid 1990s, Dickson took a course in jewellery design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, creating miniature sculptures that soon developed into exquisite fine jewellery pieces.
“Yewn” is not only Dickson’s family name, but also a homonym for “origins”, “cloud” and “luck” in Chinese. Through his unique designs, Dickson explores the auspicious concepts that are central to Chinese philosophy and culture whilst also echoing the unique aesthetics present in many different forms of decorative arts in China.
